AAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!
You have to try it. If no one has ever before offered you a chance to do Petals Around The Rose, now is your lucky moment. Someone sent me this link and I tried the game. Having no tolerance for frustration, not any at all, I gave up after five minutes and called Lydia and Dan who both "got it" immediately. Then, when I knew the answer, I felt like a dodo. See how you do.

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH indeed! I tried late last night for about 15 minutes. Got one right. Too tired, I thought. Tried again this morning for about 20 minutes. Hubby tried for about 40 minutes - got some right but, each time, his ploy failed when he tried it again! Phew! I found some information which told me the answer is always zero or an even number and that the name of the game, Petals Around The Rose, is significant and that the order of the dice is irrelevant. Will try again later. In the meantime, I will send the URL to my son and daughter and see if they can do it! It seems that the Dodo is not extinct after all!

Well, Hubby came down for his turn on the computer whilst I do wifely things, and he's got it!!! After 5 tries, he suddenly saw how it worked and he has just done ten in a row. Will let you know how long it takes me or whether I have to admit defeat and ask, 'How did you do it'?

EUREKA!! Well, I finished getting in the washing and went upstairs to do a bit of ironing before getting supper. I was thinking about 'Petals *Around* The Rose' as I ironed and... Yes, maybe that's it - I think I've got it! Just finished my first course and couldn't wait to try again. And, yes, my idea was right and I can do it!
Going to eat my banana now and watch a documentary on TV and then BBC News!
TTFN! (Ta-ta for now!)

Congratulations! Both of you beat me. As I said, I gave up almost right away and called for help. I got a chuckle out of the comments page linked to the game...the one man who claimed not to be able to sleep, the fellow who was being nearly driven out of his mind by his inability to figure out the answer. :-)

The moment my husband came down, he asked me to set the game up again. So, it's a good job we worked it out or we would have been joining the insomniacs! Found another page with the game on:- http://www.enc.org/features/focus/archive/inquiry/document.shtm?input=FOC-000711-index you might be interested because it is a teacher describing how she introduced the game to her class.
