Green Eggs And Gloom
One way to know I'm overly decrepit is that when I do additional activity, instead of getting stronger/abler, I fall apart more. Since bringing home Pork Chop, I've had to go out and take walks, something formerly as unlikely as that I grow helicopter rotors out of my head and fly around the neighborhood. Conventional wisdom dictates that those who walk outdoors for a while each day become spryer in the process. Fugitaboutit. Not happening. This A.M. Porque and I were out huffing and puffing along at 4:45. Porkee seemed extra brisk today. I could hardly keep up. Imagine not being able to keep up with a chihuahua. We were on the proverbial clubhouse turn, going into the stretch when it occurred to me that I might not arrive alive. I was light headed. Seemed as though the ground floated into and out of my consciousness. I felt like a person who might soon make a closer acquaintance with the surface of the sidewalk. Physically I am what I have recently heard categorized as "all tore up from the floor up." Pretty bad. The other day I asked Lydia if, should I die, she would take Porkee, or if that didn't work out, have Porque humanely put to sleep. Lydia seemed shocked that I would talk like that. Well.....I'm not doing better. It's all downhill. Poor little Porkee, just finally got a good home.

Today is Green Eggs and Ham Day here on 38th Street. Lydia and her kids and a friend of Lydia's and HER kids will be here in a few hours to do learning activities around that particular Dr. Seuss book. Last night I baked a ham and must now get busy cutting it up to make ham salad. I very much doubt that anyone will want lunch exactly as pictured in the story. Occasions like this are nice for me, but rough on Porque who will need to visit the laundry until all the little kids go home.

4:45 in the morning! Are you getting enough sleep, Joanna? Lack of sleep is enough to make anyone feel dizzy and faint also excessive heat can have the same effect. Make sure you drink plenty of water. I made that mistake in Spain as a teenager and I got heat prostation. Had to stay in bed for three days as, everytime I tried to sit up, I felt sick and really faint.

Apart from that, you always seem to be busy cooking and entertaining, or making slippers or growing all sorts of vegetables and flowers. Me, I feel like a slouch in comparison!

No, I don't drink enough water and I for sure do not get enough sleep. You're absolutely correct. I sleep about 6 hours every other night and I only drink water if someone holds a gun to my head and yells, "Drink this water or we saw Pork Chop in half!" Recently I discovered a new product...Fruit 2-O. It's water with fruit juice flavor and no calories. I just love the grape kind. Tasty. A couple of days ago I made history by drinking three of those within 24 hours. :-) No, I cannot be weaselled into drinking city water. I don't even use the horrible stuff for coffee/tea/cooking. For those, I have a filter in the refrigerator. Water flows through it and can be accessed by punching the water button, the crushed ice button, or the whole ice cube option in a recessed area of the refrigerator door. Little Benny loves this and plays with it when he's here...leaving water and ice chips all over the kitchen floor. It's not any elite thing. Most of the newer refrigerators have it.

Fruit 2-0 sounds good! When it's hot, I guzzle lemon flavoured Tonic Water. Must admit that I don't drink enough water, either, although our tap water isn't too bad.

Whoever came up with the idea of fruit-flavored water, is a genius...probably a rich genius. No calories, just a bit of fruit flavoring and water and they charge almost a dollar/bottle for it and everyone loves it. Wow. What a great concept. I recently tried several varieties. The lemon kind from Minute Maid is good. The grape and the raspberry ones from Fruit 2-0 are excellent. Citrus from Fruit 2-0 is dreadful.

Something I bought but have not yet tried is Red Bull. The man who does my lawn takes a Red Bull break halfway through the job. He claims that it really amps him up. There's something in it named "taurine", a protein ingredient. I haven't tried this stuff yet because I don't want to open a can of what looks like soda and get a mouth full of something like beef extract. Before I try it, I want someone to tell me what it tastes like. I offered a can of it to Lydia. She took the can with her, but hasn't opened it yet. Anybody like it and want to describe the flavor?????

Certainly doesn't taste of beef! Hubby used to drink it sometimes but he thought it was overpriced and he really prefers bitter lemon.
