Name: Tessa
I won't tell you to ignore the human flotsam because that would mean the end of your wonderfully descriptive narratives about life on your street! Thank God for the marvellous and exquisite things in life; for the flowers and the trees; for the birds and their songs; for music and for art, to name a few! Without those, life would be a dull existence indeed.
However, that doesn't make it any easier for you to live in a 'war zone' so close to the 'enemy'! Unfortunately, it does seem that these human rejects have fallen prey to the two greatest evils in human society: the abuse of alcohol and the abuse of drugs. These two things gnaw ceaselessly at their humanity, create poverty, and are the perfect breeding ground for violence and crime. For their children, such an environment makes it nigh impossible for them to live normal lives or to climb out of the abyss dug by their parents. Sadly, they were probably born addicts and, because they were in all probability starved of oxygen whilst in the womb, without the intelligence which could and should have been their heritage. How and why do people fall into the trap of alcolhol and drug addiction? Perhaps, one day, society will find a cure for this canker.
In the meantime, enjoy your garden - it sounds peaceful and beautiful - an oasis in a barren desert.
